Summer weekends

My ideal camper looks like this one. If I could, I would sit outside this weekend with all my camping friends and enjoy the summer weather! A game of cards and some refreshing drinks? Does it get any better than this?

Decor How-to

art, book ends, decorate, Ikea, Lisa Congdon, reading nook

I love to read, don’t you? What better way to enjoy a good book than to create your own reading nook? Tucked away nicely in a corner of your home!

This is how I envision mine. I would start off buy purchasing the Petrie Chair. I love the modern, clean lines paired with a classic tufted back. This chair is so versatile – it matches almost any decor.

The Geobloom Rug (at the bottom), from CB2 packs a punch of bright colour. I feel as though this green is perfect for the summer months, but it is also neutral enough to go with autumn colours, Christmas decor, and right into spring!

Mixed metals are perfect for the accessories and shelf unit. The table lamp and bunny book ends add a touch of modern glam to this restful reading area.

Adding a rustic piece like this Carved Wood Side Table from West Elm lends an eclectic vibe to this tiny area without over powering it. Some colourful cushions and that fabulous paining by artist Lisa Congdon finish off this nook with stye and flair.

What do you think? Would you like to sit back with a glass of wine and read a great book in this space?

Keep cool

I sincerely hope this is the last day of the horrible heat wave we’ve had in T.O. The temperatures have been around 35 degrees Celcius, with a high humidex (making it feel like 40 degrees). Yikes!

That being said, summer is the time to create memories with friends and family. These DIY popsicle invitations via Martha Stewart are the perfect invite for a birthday party or backyard BBQ! Click here for the clip art and how-to!

I would love to have a huge lofty living room with white walls so I could switch up my decor for summer. I would hang this brightly-hued acrylic painting by artist Nina Nolte.

This season the accessories are big, bold and bright! If I can’t keep cool, at least I can look it!

I really, really want a pink lounge chair and umbrella for the beach. Welcome summer!

It’s only Wednesday and I had to catch up on so much at work – after being on vacation for a week! I feel burned out again.

Do you find work stressful? Do you balance work life and blogging, exercise and trying to make healthy meals – all during the summer? How do you cope?

Right now, my life looks like this…

Last week I didn’t post much because I decided to take a local vacation in my hometown Toronto – and surrounding areas.

First stop – a visit to my parents who live in scenic Bobcaygeon, Ontario

Next, we strolled through Kensington Market, enjoying the street art, vintage shops, lunch and great coffee. People watching in Kensington is such a unique experience.

The opposite of Kensington Market is Yorkville. Toronto’s most celebrated neighbourhood of style and culture, it has the most exquisite boutiques and restaurants.

We had to try Yogurty’s the new self-serve froyo place in T.O.
We filled up our cups with flavoured yogurt and added as many toppings as possible! Delicious!

Amy Moss, the creative mind behind the blog Eat drink Chic was inspired by vintage apothecary labels and she was kind enough to post the free label template on her blog.

Amy originally put her labels on coloured glass jars from ikea, which have been discontinued. Not to worry, these labels will look fantastic on anything that look vintage. Old apothecary jars, vintage milk bottles and cotton ball jars!

I created this Photoshop mock ups to show you how fantastic this label looks on this Chemist’s Jar from Anthropologie

This is how the label would appear on the SLOM bottle with stopper from ikea.
At only $1.49 this is a great way to make a statement in the kitchen or bathroom and it could also be used as a flower vase.

And finally, bathroom canisters get a vintage vibe – from Crate and Barrel

Download the label art here for free! Do you DIY? Please share your projects!

It finally feels like summer is here. Time to have fun in the sun!

take a whimsical tote like this one to the beach with you, summer meadows filled with wildflowers are my favourite, a perfect picnic on the beach, fresh lemonade is a great way to cool off on those hazy days, cycling in the early evening – what a fabulous way to end the day!
