When I saw these photographs on the blog decor8, I just had to share! Photography, recipes and food styling by Nicky & Max, or Nicola Walsh and Max Faber. Nicky is the photographer and Max is her work partner, a food stylist and he also cooks! Together, Nicky & Max work on projects and share a lovely blog written in both English and German that you have to check out. Here are some examples of their work. The styling is very creative and so appetizing! Bonus – their blog has recipes!!!
By day, I am a graphic designer which is why I really love to share or “curate” good design with others. It takes a lot of searching and effort on my part to find the best photos that I possibly can, to share, with you.
If I added images into my post without “sizing” them there would be all sorts of different image widths in each post. It’s distracting to the eye when scrolling. I also like to put them in at the maximum size for my wordpress theme. My theme “Chateau” has a maximum pixel width of 529 pixels.
Here is a screen capture of an image I sourced, brought into Photoshop and noticed that the width of the image is 600 pixels. Which means, it’s large enough to fit into my post at maximum size. You ALWAYS want to size down if possible for the best quality, not up.
I always decrease my photos in Photoshop before I select them for the post. I re-size the width to 529 pixels and the length re-sizes proportionately.
The next step is to insert my image into wordpress.
Click on upload/insert. The dialogue box pops up. Choose select files, then go to the bottom and choose “FULL SIZE” – this will show you your max pixel width for full size, medium etc. You always want to insert the image at the same pixel width so your photos will all appear in a straight vertical line when scrolling down your blog.
It might not seem like a huge deal, but photos that are all placed in the same position and are all the same pixel width, will add a great design aesthetic to your blog!
Perfect alignment just looks better, don’t you agree? Oh, and don’t forget to give credit to the images by linking them to the original source. These photos are from Smashing Picture. Happy posting!
If you want to see the most stunning photographs you must check out the blog Zsa Zsa Bellagio. The blog is dedicated to “all things divine and that inspire us to enjoy a more exquisite life.” It is one of my favourite blogs right now and it is loaded with inspiration!
Today I have curated some lovely images that are oh so elegant.
I love anything that has the word faux in front of it. It just sounds more sophisticated, doesn’t it? I also love ikea hacks. This fauxdenza, or “fake” credenza (a piece of furniture that became very fashionable during the second half of the 19th century) is the best hack I’ve seen so far.
For about $300, some labour and some problem solving, Morgan Satterfield, author of the blog The Brick House, custom-built a ten foot long credenza that added tons of storage while being perfectly scaled and custom fit on an awkwardly long and barren entryway wall. The result – a clean, modern, floating, gorgeous solution! I can’t believe it was only $300!!!
All the details on how to make your own sexy fauxdenza can be found here.
Being thrifty can also be stylish! Ki Nassauer, edit and chief of Flea Market Style magazine, has made a career reinventing curbside castoffs and flea market finds into stylish and clever decorative items! Vintage suitcases as shelves… what a neat idea.
This magnet board was a former metal table top. Beth Schaleben, who shares the details about this project on her blog Show & Tell, popped a piece of weathered lumber into it, hammered in some railroad nails and voilà! A vintage magnet board!
And then there is Megan, author of the blog Brassy Apple. Check out these beautiful pillows. She made them from thrifted, old sweaters. For the DIY details click here.
Monochrome, or black and white photographs are timeless. The right lighting creates powerful contrast and drama that can leave a striking impact on the viewer. Black and white photography often relays a sensitivity or an emotion that colour photos sometimes lack.
I would love to wake up to this charming alarm clock in the morning
my dream bedroom… the light fixture is a feather chandelier from japan, and all of the cushions & throws in the apartment are faux chinchilla, fox and ivory mink

I am headed to Bobcaygeon Ontario this weekend for some country fun! Most people relax and unwind up north, but I am a city girl and I always manage to find an excuse to shop at Bigley Shoes & Clothing. Bigley’s features one of the largest selections of shoes (over 40,000 pairs)! Holla!
And what sane person would go to the Kawartha lake area and not have a big hunkering waffle cone at the famous Kawartha Dairy? The line ups are worth the wait – and yes, tourists take these types of photos.
