Sometimes it’s as simple as enjoying a cup of cocoa with a loved one. Don’t forget to add a festive cookie to the side of the cup for that extra special touch during the holiday season! Yes kids, it’s that easy!

Dare I indulge?

06 Tuesday Nov 2012

Serendipity. I happily found a very interesting blog today. Truth be told, my own blogging may be sporadic in November and December. You see, I have some weight to shed and it’s more work than I first anticipated. Research… new recipes… chopping veggies (ugh, seriously?) …exercise …more veggies. If I could dip my celery sticks into chocolate, I would. Enter the Minimalist Baker. Every recipe consists of 10 ingredients or less, requires a single spoon or bowl, or takes 30 minutes or less to prepare. This totally suits my lifestyle and my hatred for “ma petite cuisine” which is fancy for “galley kitchen”!

I’m going to try baking these Vegan Banana Nut Muffins for Two. If it’s vegan, it has to be good for me… right?

I’m curious… is this a breakfast that I dare indulge in once a week?

I think I will post about things like this more often. It can be a new series called, “Yeah, it’s that easy”. This is such a clever idea for a small get together or a large soirée! Chop black olives into small bow ties and buttons and serve with triangles of brie cheese on crackers! Elegant canapés!

Autumn is upon us

Autumn. The humidity is already gone and the lazy, hazy days of summer are becoming cooler and fresher. There is a crispness to the air. I’m looking forward to watching nature change it’s colours. To drinking a cup of warm cocoa and snuggling under a cozy blanket. Boots and comfy socks. Luxe sweaters and scarves. Stew made with root vegetables – one of my favourites! Fresh apples from the farm.

Learn how to make this mushroom garland in Sweet Paul’s autumn issue.

Nothing beats buying apples from your local market. So sweet and juicy at  this time of year!

I just have to try this lavender hot chocolate recipe by à la mode.

Cozy blankets. Perfect for curling up with a good book.

cauliflower soup recipe, roasted cauliflower soup

This roasted cauliflower soup recipe looks and sounds delicious! I found it on one of my favourite websites Sweet Paul. The star toast cut out is genious – very festive at this time of year.

Roasted cauliflower soup
Serves 4

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped
1 cauliflower, broken into pieces
3 cups chicken stock
1 cup cream
salt and pepper
start toast, use a cookie cutter and cut out stars from toasted bread

Preheat oven to 380F.
Place onion and cauliflower in a large oven proof dish and drizzle with olive oil.
Sprinkle with some salt and pepper.
Roast until golden.
Place the cauliflower and onions in a large pot and add stock.
Bring to a boil.
Let it boil 5 minutes, add stock and season with salt and pepper.
Pure in a blender and serve with a toasted star, a little olive oil and some pepper.
