I laughed out loud at some of these clever post-it note drawings by Marc Johns. I love his cartoon style sketches and the subject matter is quirky, thoughtful and fun! There are more post-it note drawings on flickr. To visit Marc’s blog click here.

Inspired by The Raven

Edgar Allan Poe is one of my favourite authors of all time. I know the movie won’t live up to Poe’s tales of the macabre, but I’m going to see it anyway. Today’s images are inspired by the upcoming movie release of The Raven… dark and eerie… depth and contrast.

Black and white, or monochromatic images. The lack of colour allows the subject matter to create atmosphere….

I recently joined Pinterest, a virtual pinboard, to create a mood board for inspiration. There are so many beautiful images and products to discover! I’m finding other blogs that I never would have stumbled upon otherwise. I love Pinterest and I highly recommend that you check it out!

This is the board I created for my “kitchen inspiration”.  I’m going to paint my kitchen very soon and add accessories. When I see an image I like on the internet, I “Pin” it. Now I know what to add to my shopping list, instead of wandering around the store aimlessly. I am on a mission now!

Here is a roundup of some stunning black and white photography that Lauren from ELLEBY DESIGN pinned. Her taste mirrors my own and thanks to Pinterest, I now follow her fabulous blog.

Christmas Markets, flickr, Germany, St. Nicholas, travel

This post is dedicated to my little sister. She is spending the holidays in Germany with my cousins this year. I will miss her terribly, so I thought I would share some images of their über fabulous Christmas Markets. Germany has some of the oldest and best Christmas Markets in Europe.

Two German Santa Clauses. What elaborate costumes!

Granny Chic is fresh and modern? Where is my teacup at?

Granny Chic. I first noticed it in Lafayette’s flamboyant abode on True Blood.

What is Granny Chic you ask? Emma Lamb, the admin for the Granny Chic Flickr group, provides a really fantastic description of granny chic design. She says: “It is about great design in new and vintage pieces… it is about beautiful vintage and retro inspired colour combinations… it is about mixing old and new ideas, patterns, colours and textures to create something that is both fresh and modern, yet traditional at the same time… it is about expressing your vintage passion from a modern day perspective… these principals can be applied to everything concerning design, crafts, fashion and interiors”.

Whatever your design aesthetic may be, I think you’ll agree that Granny Chic a trend that might be here to stay! Take a look for yourself on Flickr.

Here are a few of my holiday favourites!

This vintage DIY Christmas wrapping is so darling!

A white tree with vintage ornaments and a granny pillow on an Eames chair!
Is this moose ornament the cutest little guy, or what?

The father of a very dear friend of mine makes white stars
like these at Christmas. He is Grandpa chic and he doesn’t even know it!
Isn’t this shelf the most lovely display of vintage or what? Granny approves!
